When using ASP.NET web services, if you see this error:

…it may be caused by the ISAPI & CGI Restrictions not being set correctly in IIS. From the root computer node in IIS manager select ‘ISAPI and CGI Restrictions’:

…and ensure that the .NET version you are using has the Restriction value set to ‘Allow’:

When debugging ASP.NET from visual studio and you are using IIS, you can disable the worker process default timeout by setting Ping Enabled = False in the web site’s application pool settings:

The default HTTP header created by ASP.NET includes a string called X-AspNet-Version. An example....

Ideally you want to give away as little information as possible about your web server to potential hackers. You can easily remove this string by making a change to the web.config file.
Setting the enableVersionHeader attribute to true in the httpRuntime element will remove the string from all the http headers.
